St. George`s Cathedral (Catholic) (London)
St. George`s Cathedral is the Catholic cathedral for South London, and is one of two cathedrals in Southwark, the other being the Anglican Southwark Cathedral.
It is situated inWestminster Bridge Road, near the Imperial War Museum.
Ironically, the site was formerly St. George`s Fields, where the"No Popery" rioters, led by Lord George Gordon, assembled in 1780 before embarking on their burning and looting campaign in central London.
The cathedral was built in a neo-Gothic style by the brilliant Augustus Pugin.
Heavily bombed during the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1958 by Romiley Craze.
