St. Mary`s Church (Lindisfarne)
St. Mary`s Church is the parish church for the island of Lindisfarne, otherwise known as Holy Island, off the rugged coast of Northumberland.
The church dates from the 12th century.
The West front faces the sea, and with its bell tower has strong buttresses to withstand the elements.
The interior is part Norman and part Gothic.
Traditionally, the male parishioners, mostly fishermen, occupy the North aisle while the women sit in the nave.
