Lancaster Cathedral (Catholic) (Lancaster)

St. Peter's Cathedral is the Catholic cathedral serving the ancient city of Lancaster.

It is situated in East Road, close to the main civic buildings, on a hill with views across Morecambe Bay to the mountains of the Lake District.

The architect was Edward Graham Paley, and St. Peter's was completed in 1859, being raised to cathedral status in 1924.

It has an elegant tower and crocketed spire, rising to 240 feet.

The High Altar was created by Giles Gilbert Scott, as was the 32-panel reredos. The chapel dedicated to St. Thomas More has a relic of his hair shirt.
