Christchurch Mansion (Ipswich)

Christchurch Mansion is a splendid 16th century house in Ipswich.

It contains an excellent collection of fine art and a museum of children’s toys. Also displayed is the Pownder brass, from the former church of St. Mary Quay.

Among the treasures of Christchurch Mansion are the world’s largest collection of paintings by John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough, both Suffolk men, and others by Crome, Cotman and Munnings.

Essentially it is a Tudor country house, and is set in its own parkland, which is now a lovely public park in the centre of Ipswich.

Christchurch would have been familiar to Cardinal Wolsey, who was born in Ipswich.
