Inverness Castle (Inverness)
Inverness Castle is a prominent building in Inverness.
A fortified town for hundreds of years, it had a mediaeval castle on the hilltop which was destroyed by Robert the Bruce.
Its successor, known as Fort George, was captured and blown up in 1745 by Charles Edward Stuart.
The present pink sandstone buildings were built in 1834 for the Sheriff Court, and an extension, now couincil offices, was added in 1847.
