Hampstead Heath (Hampstead)
Hampstead Heath is a vast open space at Hampstead on the edge of London, extending to 800 acres.
A precious green lung, it is visited by 10 million people every year.
Parts of the heath have been designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) by English Nature. There are 25 ponds, ancient woodland, bog, hedgerows and grassland. It is also home to a flock of flamingos.
