Townsford Mill (Halstead)
Townsford Mill is a former water mill in the old Essex market town of Halstead.
It stands on the River Colne, and is a handsome sight with its whitewashed weatherboarding.
The whole complex of buildings of which the 18th century mill is a part were associated with the famous textile company of Courtaulds.
The Courtauld family were originally Huguenot refugees. Their business was started in Halstead and the neighbouring towns of Braintree and Bocking.
Today, Townsford Mill has been converted into an antiques centre. The area is widely known as "Lovejoy Country" after the TV series.
