Guildford Castle (Guildford)
Guildford Castle is an impressive ruin in the Surrey town of Guildford.
Only the fine keep remains, and is situated in a public garden off Quarry Street.
The castle was built by Henry II in the 12th century, although the surrounding walls date from the years following the Norman Conquest.
It was a favourite Royal residence in the 13th century, and later saw use as a jail.
