Maritime Museum (Great Yarmouth)

The Maritime Museum is an interesting museum in the old town, now a seaside resort, of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.

It is situated in Marine Parade.

The building was constructed in 1861 as a sailors` club and refuge for shipwrecked mariners.

The sailors themselves left behind objects that they had acquired in various parts of the world, and also items which they had personally made. Gradually, this became an impressive collection.

The musuem covers various subjects, all to do with the sea. In particular, there are a number of features about shipwrecks, including Captain George Manby`s working model of his breeches buoy.

There are also models and paintings dealing with the fishing industry.
