Hippodrome (Great Yarmouth)
The Hippodrome is one of a number of fascinating places of entertainment by the sea at Great Yarmouth.
It was built as a circus and opened in 1903, with a name derived from horse racing. The architect was Ralph Scott Cockrill, one of a family of architects from nearby Gorleston.
The Hippodrome features delicate terra cotta carving in the art nouveau style, which was probably made by Doulton`s of Lambeth.
It was designed with two feet thick walls for noise insulation.
