Grey Friars (Gloucester)
The Grey Friars is a historic site in the City Centre of Gloucester.
It can be found behind the interesting St. Mary de Crypt Church.
The friary was a Franciscan house, and was founded in 1231 by Thomas Berkeley.
It is now a picturesque ruin, with only parts of the nave and North aisle remaining. This, however, is much more than friaries in other towns, most of which have vanished without trace.
After the Dissolution, the Grey Friars was used for workshops and tenements.
