St. Mary and All Saints Church (Fotheringhay)
St. Mary and All Saints is the magnificent parish church of the Northamptonshire village of Fotheringhay.
It has a beautiful setting overlooking the River Nene, close to the earthworks of the historic Fotheringhay Castle.
Today`s church is what remains of a larger building built in the late 14th century. It was given by Edward VI to the Duke of Northumberland, who demolished the choir and college.
The church has a wonderful lantern tower, reminiscent of Ely Cathedral and visible for miles around. It is 103 feet high and has a fan - vaulted roof.
Among the monuments is one to Richard Plantagenet, Duke of York and father to Edward IV and Richard III. The latter was born at Fotheringhay.
