Felixstowe Pier (Felixstowe)
Felixstowe Pier is one of a dwindling number of English seaside piers, a fascinating and much loved institution.
It is situated at Felixstowe, the Suffolk seaside resort and container port.
The pier was opened in 1905, with a length of 2640 feet, and with an electric tramway laid along the side.
When the Second World War broke out, the tramway service was suspended and the pier breached. After the war, the tramway remained closed and most of the pier, at the seaward end, was demolished.
Today, the pier has a length of 450 feet and has an amusement building at the pier end.
Plans were announced for refurbishment in 1997, but unfortunately these have been shelved due to lack of funding.
