The Park (Ely)
The Park is a lovely green area in the ancient cathedral city of Ely, in Cambridgeshire.
It runs from the Ely Porta, an old gateway to the Ely Cathedral precinct and the King's School, to Broad Street, from which can get via Jubilee Gardens to the outstanding Riverside area beside the River Great Ouse.
The Park is owned by the Dean and Chapter of the cathedral, and formerly contained the Prior's vineyard, as well as some fishponds which were filled in during the 19th century.
Fenced off is Cherry Hill, the motte of the long demolished Ely Castle, built as a response to the freedom fighting exploits of Hereward the Wake.
