Dartmouth Castle (Dartmouth)

Dartmouth Castle is a harbour fortress at Dartmouth in Devon, guarding the mouth of the lovely River Dart.

It was orginally built by Edward IV in 1481, and was added to by Henry VII. At one time there was a chain which could be stretched across to Kingswear to block the harbour.

During the Civil War some other fortresses were built in the town.

Dartmouth Castle is now in the care of English Heritage.
