Tymperleys (Colchester)
Tymperleys is a superb mediaeval house in the ancient Essex town of Colchester, and is now used as a museum.
It is situated through an archway in Trinity Street, nearly opposite the Saxon Holy Trinity Church.
Tymperleys, with its picturesque timber framing, dates from the late 15th century, and was the birthplace in 1544 of Dr William Gilberd, the scientist who discovered, and coined the term, "electricity".
Today, the house is run by Colchester Council, and used as a fascinating museum of clocks made in the town during the 18th and 19th centuries.
