Dutch Quarter (Colchester)

The Dutch Quarter is a historic and picturesque area of the ancient Essex town of Colchester.

The name derives from it being colonised by Huguenot weavers who settled here when fleeing from religious persecution in the 15th century.

The main streets in the area are West Stockwell Street and East Stockwell Street.

The Dutch Quarter contains the home of the sisters Jane and Anne Taylor, who wrote poems for children, including "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", as well as the partly ruined St. Martin's Church.
