Martello Tower (Clacton)

The Martello Tower is an interesting feature at the Essex seaside town of Clacton.

It is situated on The Promenade.

The Martello Tower is a circular fort, and one of a string that were built in the early 19th century around the coast from Suffolk to Sussex, as a defence aginst possible invasion from France.

The tower now acts as a central hub for local residents and visitors.

It contains an art gallery, local heritage information, and children`s activity space.
