St. Martins Church (Chipping Ongar)
St. Martin of Tours is the parish church of the Essex town of Chipping Ongar, on the edge of Epping Forest.
It is a very old church, dating mostly from the Norman period, while the nave and chancel have reused Roman brick quoins and small windows. There is an impressive Norman doorway.
The pretty belfry is 15th century, and the roof was dated by the Royal Commission to be early 17th century.
A South aisle was added in 1884, and there is a gallery at the West end.
The pulpit was constructed about 1600, and the communion rail about 1700.
St. Martins is reached down a lane from Chipping Ongars charming High Street.
