Hedingham Castle (Castle Hedingham)

Hedingham Castle is a historic castle at Castle Hedingham in Essex.

It has a most impressive Norman keep, which was built around 1140. It is one of the finest in England, and is almost 100 feet high.

The De Veres, powerful Earls of Oxford, held the castle for over 500 years, and it was visited by Henry VII, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

There is a surviving Banqueting Hall with a Minstrels` Gallery.

In the surrounding parkland there are woodland walks and a picnic area.
