Trinity College (Cambridge)
Trinity College is one of the many colleges that collectively make up the world famous Cambridge University.
It is situated in Trinity Street.
The largest and richest of the Cambridge Colleges, it has the largest court of any in either Cambridge or Oxford.
Trinity College was founded during Edward III`s reign in 1337, but was refounded in 1546 by Henry VIII.
The Gatehouse is Gothic, with one gateway for pedestrians and another for vehicles. Above the gate is a statue of Henry VIII, holding a chair leg instead of a sceptre, originally a student prank but now itself part of history.
Trinity athletes traditionally race around the court against the clock, as seen in the film "Chariots of Fire".
