Athenaeum (Bury St. Edmunds)
The Athenaeum is perhaps the best of the many elegant buildings in Bury St. Edmunds.
It is situated on Angel Hill, opposite Bury St. Edmunds Cathedral.
The Athenaeum has an island site and was built by Robert Adam as an assembly house in the late 18th century.
The excellent ballroom is still in use, and Charles Dickens gave readings in the building.
