Brecon Castle (Brecon)

Brecon Castle is a Norman castle at Brecon in Wales.

Standing high above the bridge over the River Usk, it dates from 1090 when Bernard de Neufmarche constructed a motte and bailey using stones from the Roman camp of Gaer. Some remains of these survive in the garden of the Deanery.

Llewelyn the Great twice besieged Brecon Castle, both times unsuccessfully, in 1216 and 1233. It was later occupied by Henry IV.

The main part of the castle has been incorporated into the Castle Hotel.
