Alum Chine (Bournemouth)

Alum Chine is a tropical garden at Bournemouth.

The main entrance is in West Overcliff Drive.

The tropical gardens along the chine were laid out in the 1920s and restored in 1996, while the Argyll Gardens are at the top of the cliff, giving outstanding sea views between the Isle of Purbeck and the Isle of Wight.

Near the top of the chine is the site of Robert Louis Stevenson`s house, Skerryvore, where he wrote "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "Kidnapped". It was destroyed by enemy action during the Second World War.
