Boscombe Pier (Boscombe)

Boscombe Pier is one of a dwindling number of English seaside piers, a fascinating and much loved institution.

It is situated at Boscombe on the South coast, pointing out into the English Channel.

Essentially a symbol of rivalry with nearby Bournemouth, the simple 600 foot structure was designed by Archibald Smith and opened in 1889.

Having been closed during the Second World War, it reopened and improvements were made, including the addition of a restaurant and ice rink.

There are plans for refurbishment of the pier.
