Blenheim Palace (Blenheim)
Blenheim Palace is a magnificent house at Blenheim, just outside Woodstock.
It is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough and birthplace of Winston Churchill.
The house was built between 1705 and 1722 for John Churchill, created First Duke of Marlborough in recognition of his outstanding victories, including that at Blenheim in 1704. It was designed by John Vanbrugh, previously best known as a playwright.
The many state rooms contain a collection of paintings, furniture, bronzes and the Marlborough Victories tapestries.
