Indoor Market (Bath)
The Indoor Market is a popular part of the shopping experience in the historic city of Bath.
It runs between Grand Parade, close to Pulteney Bridge, and the High Street, beside the Guildhall.
The market was built on the site of what in mediaeval times was The Shambles, a cross between slaughterhouse and butchers.
It has a twelve sided dome.
At the heart of the market is a pillar known as The Nail. It was here that deals were concluded, leading to the expression "to pay on the nail".
