Market Cross (Barnard Castle)
The Market Cross is a historic structure in the County Durham.
It is a two storey building at the central street junction and dates from 1747.
There is a colonnaded ground floor and an enclosed upper storey. The slate roof is crowned by a bell tower and a gilded weather vane, with two bullet holes from 1804.
It has been used as a butter market, Town Hall, lock-up, court room and fire station.
