RNLI Grace Darling Museum (Bamburgh)

The RNLI Grace Darling Museum is a popular attraction at Bamburgh in Northumberland.

It is situated in Radcliffe Road.

The museum tells the story of the extraordinary heroine Grace Darling, who was born here in 1815. One night in 1838, at the height of a storm, she rowed out with her father William Darling, the lighthouse keeper, to rescue five people shipwrecked on the "Forfarshire", and stranded on rocks.

Grace died of consumption in 1842, having always been astonished and embarrassed at the public adulation which she received. She said that she had simply been responding to an emergency.

She is buried in the churchyard of St. Aidan`s Church.
