Grace Darling Monument (Bamburgh)
Th Grace Darling Monument is an important monument at Bamburgh in Northumberland.
It is situated in the churchyard of St. Aidan`s Church.
Grace Darling became a national heroine in 1838 when she and her father rowed out to the wreck of the steamship Forfarshire on the Farne Islands, and rescued nine survivors.
The monument was put up in 1842 and is Grade II* listed. It was designed by Anthony Salvin in the Gothic Revival style. A new life size effigy was carved by C. R. Smith in 1885. The original is now in the church.
