Wallace Tower (Ayr)
The Wallace Tower is a prominent structure in Ayr on the Clyde coast in Scotland.
Situated in the High Street, the Wallace Tower was built in 1828.
It is on the site of an ancient tower in which William Wallace was imprisoned, and from which he made a daring escape. In 1297, he burned down the Barns of Ayr, temporary accommodation for Edward I`s army, involving 500 English soldiers being burned alive.
There is a statue of Wallace in a niche, by local sculptor James Thom.
