Whitwell
Whitwell is a village in Rutland, about four miles to the East of Oakham, the county town.
It stands on the North shore of Rutland Water, the largest man made lake in Europe.
St. Michael and All Angels Church has Anglo-Saxon origins, and a 13th century bellcote.
At Sykes Lane, beside Rutland Water, is the Butterfly and Aquatic Centre, as well as the Tourist Information Centre.
From a landing stage at Whitwell Creek, the popular "Rutland Belle" pleasure cruiser gives tours of the lake.
Whitwell has managed to get itself twinned with Paris, the capital of France.
