Weston-super-Mare

Weston-super-Mare is a popular seaside resort in Somerset, on the Bristol Channel, and 32 miles from Bristol.

It is situated on a sandy bay, between two headlands, and was developed as a resort from the 1840s.

The International Helicopter Museum draws a good many visitors, as does the Sea Life Centre.

The traditional Weston-super-Mare Pier, one of two in the town, has steamer sailings.

All Saints Church was built between 1898 and 1902 by G. F. Bodley.

Fred Pontin opened the first Pontins Holiday Camp here in 1946.

Weston-super-Mare was the birthplace of Jeffrey Archer, author and politician; John Cleese, actor and Python; and Jill Dando, TV presenter, who was murdered in 1999.
