Wendens Ambo
Wendens Ambo is a charming little village in North West Essex, 2 miles from Saffron Walden and on the little River Cam.
The name means "both the Wendens", and came about in 1662 when the separate parishes of Great Wenden and Little Wenden were amalgamated.
There is an almost unbelievably pretty street where picturesque cottages lead up the village church.
St. Mary`s Church has a Norman tower with Roman tiles, and mediaeval wall paintings depicting the life of St. Margaret.
A non conformist chapel is now a private house.
