Watchet

Watchet is a little port in Somerset, on the Bristol Channel and 15 miles from Bridgwater. It has been a port since the Saxon period and was much raided by the Vikings.

St. Decuman`s Church, dating from the 15th century and with a fine tower, is a mile inland. Nearby is St. Decuman`s Well.

Beside the quay is a statue representing the Ancient Mariner. Coleridge was inspired to write the poem here.

The Victorian market house houses a museum and a tiny chapel.

The restored West Somerset Railway has a station at Watchet.

Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Watchet for groups.
