St. Davids
St. Davids is a tiny cathedral city in South West Wales, 15 miles from Fishguard.
St. Davids Cathedral is almost hidden from the main street in a grassy hollow. It is on the site of a religious community founded in the 6th century by St. David, the patron saint of Wales Today`s exceptional cathedral dates from the 12th century.
This was an important place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages, two visits to St. Davids being equivalent to one to Rome.
Beside the cathedral is the impressive ruin of the Bishop`s Palace, now in the care of Cadw.
The coast along here is spectacularly beautiful. St. Non`s Bay, named after his mother, is said to be St. David`s birthplace.
