Shepton Mallet

Shepton Mallet is a small town in Somerset, 18 miles from Bristol.

The 15th century parish church has a distinguished and lofty Somerset tower, and an excellent waggon roof.

The Market Cross in the town centre dates from about 1500, and is accompanied by wooden15th century market stalls, which are actually the remains of the Shambles.

Shepton Mallet is probably best known for the production of Babycham.

The county showground, home of the Bath and West Show, is just outside the town.

Shepton Mallet was the site of the first armed clash of the Civil War, a minor skirmish in 1642.
