Port Sunlight
Port Sunlight is a village on the Wirral in Merseyside, formerly in Cheshire, and 3 miles from Birkenhead.
It was built as a model village in the 19th century by Lord Leverhulme for the workers at his soap factory in the vicinity. It is exceptionally well built, with a great deal of open space.
The Lady Lever Art Gallery has a fine collection of paintings and sculptures from the 18th and 19th centuries. In particular it houses a collection of works by the pre-Raphaelites.
The Port Sunlight Heritage Centre has fascinating displays about the village, the factory and its workers.
The church was also built by the company.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Port Sunlight for groups.
