Moggerhanger

Moggerhanger is a village in Bedfordshire, 5 miles from Bedford.

Moggerhanger Park, set in its own parkland, is a fine 18th century house which has Grade One listed status.

Built for Godfrey Thornton, Governor of the Bank of England and cousin of William Wilberforce, the house is the most complete surviving example of the work of the outstanding archiect Sir John Soane.

The parkland was landscaped by Humphry Repton.

After being used as a sanatorium for most of the 20th century, when its full importance was not recognised, Moggerhanger Park is now open to the public.
