Lymington

Lymington is a market town, yachting centre and holiday resort on the Solent in Hampshire, on the edge of the New Forest.

The town has many 18th century houses along its elegant streets. The harbour master’s Office was formerly a bath house, and Pressgang Cottage was once the headquarters of a local press gang.

Lymington has an attractive 18th century parish church and a lively, attractive quayside.

There is a busy passenger and car ferry which runs to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. In fact there have been ferries from here to the Isle since 1200, as this is actually the shortest crossing.

The historian Edward Gibbon was once M.P. for Lymington.
