Lastingham
Lastingham is a moorland village in North Yorkshire, 6 miles from Pickering.
It was here that St. Cedd built his monastery in 654. He and his followers moved to here from Bradwell-juxta-Mare, where he had been Bishop to the East Saxons of Essex. They all died of the plague soon after reaching Lastingham.
The present church of St. Mary was built on the site in 1078. The atmospheric crypt is believed to incorporate some of Cedd`s structure.
There are three holy wells in the village, dedicated to St. Cedd, St. Chad and St. Ovin.
