John o` Groats
John o` Groats is a hamlet in the far North of Scotland, 873 miles from Land`s End, and one of the most famous destinations in Britain.
It is broadly accepted to be the North Eastern extremity of the British mainland, although it is not its Northernmost point, that being Dunnet Head not far away.
The name comes from a Dutchman named Jan de Groot, who was given the right to run a ferry service to the Orkney Islands by James IV in 1496.
