Hendon
Hendon is a suburb of North London, in the Borough of Barnet.
St. Mary`s Church dates from the mediaeval period, and has a Norman font. It is here that Sir Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore, is buried.
Church Farm House, dating from the 17th century, contains a museum of local history.
Hendon was once famous for its aerodrome, which from as early as 1910 was heavily involved in aviation development. The site is now the very popular Royal Air Force Museum.
In 1868, Britain`s first bicycle race was held at Hendon, the day after the world`s first one, in Paris.
Denis Compton, the England cricketing hero, was born at Hendon.
