Heaton

Heaton is a district in the East End of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on the Ouseburn and 2 miles from the City Centre.

Heaton Park, together with the neighbouring Armstrong Park and Jesmond Dene, forms a delightful green are along the Ouseburn.

The ruin known as King John`s Palace is in Heaton Park. Its more proper name is Adam of Jesmond`s House, although John did stay there on at least one occasion.

Heaton was by the 18th century a coal mining area, although there is little left today of that industry. It was also the birthplace of Ringtons tea.

Local legend says that Jimi Hendrix, in his pre-fame days, busked in the main street.
