Guisborough
Guisborough is a small market town in Cleveland, formerly North Yorkshire, 8 miles from Middlesbrough, among the Cleveland Hills.
Gisborough Priory (yes, it is spelt like that) is an impressive ruin, dating back to the 12th century. It was founded as an Augustinian priory by Robert de Brus, ancestor of the more famous King of Scotland, Robert the Bruce. A major feature is the magnificent East window, and there is also a fine gatehouse. The priory is in the care of English Heritage.
St. Nicholas Church stands nearby. It dates from the 15th century and has been sympathetically restored.
The Market Place is cobbled.
