Great Chalfield
Great Chalfield is a hamlet in Wiltshire, 3 miles from Melksham.
It is home to a beattiful group of late mediaeval buildings.
Great Chalfield Manor is an exceptionally fine moated mediaeval house, built by Thomas Tropenell about 1480 and now in the care of the National Trust.
There is a fine gatehouse.
The church dates back to the Norman period, and has 15th century wall paintings.
The gardens are exceptionally beautiful.
