Fareham
Fareham is a busy old market town in Hampshire, 6 miles from Portsmouth and at the head of Portsmouth Harbour.
The High Street has a fine collection of Georgian houses, from the time when naval officers and their families were settling here rather than the less salubrious Portsmouth.
The town centre and market have moved to West Street.
John Goss, composer of church music and organist at St. Pauls Cathedral, was born at Fareham, and William Makepeace Thackeray lived here as a boy.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Fareham for groups.
