Escomb
Escomb is a small village in County Durham, 1 mile from Bishop Auckland.
Escomb Church may well be the oldest complete Anglo-Saxon church in England. It dates from the late 7th century, and was built largely of stone from the nearby Roman fort of Binchester.
The long narrow nave is separated from the little square chancel by a tall round chancel arch.
The church is situated in a hollow, with a circular stone wall..
