Elmstead Market
Elmstead Market is a village in Essex, 4 miles from Colchester.
It was formerly on the main road to Harwich, and acquired its suffix from the market that was held on the green in mediaeval times, and was revived in the 17th century when plague broke out in Colchester.
St. Ann and St. Laurence Church has parts dating back to the Norman period.
The Kings Arms dates from the 17th century.
Today, Elmstead Market is best known for the amazing Beth Chatto Gardens.
