Channel Islands
The Channel Islands are a group of islands in the English Channel, to the West of the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy.
They are the only part of the lands of the Duchy of Normandy to still belong to the British Crown, and are technically Crown Dependencies.
They are also the only British European territory to come under German occupation during the Second World War, and were liberated in 1945.
The largest of the islands is Jersey, followed by Guernsey. Others include Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou and Brecqhou.
